Stream, Wetland, Riparian Buffer, and Nutrient Offset Restoration and Mitigation
Axiom Environmental has assessed and documented the feasibility of more than 150 potential stream, wetland, riparian buffer, and nutrient offset mitigation sites across the state.
Axiom Environmental has designed more than 70 stream, wetland, riparian buffer, and nutrient offset mitigation sites and has successfully carried more than 50 mitigation sites through permitting and construction.
Axiom Environmental has monitored and documented conditions for more than 100 stream, wetland, riparian buffer, and nutrient offset mitigation sites and NCDEQ stewardship sites.
Natural Systems Investigations and Permitting
-
Axiom Environmental has provided stream and wetland delineations of all sizes for more than 250 projects across the state.
-
Axiom Environmental has conducted nearly 300 surveys for federally protected plant and animal species across the state.
-
Axiom Environmental has provided natural resource investigations for nearly 200 NC Department of Transportation projects across the state, within hundreds of acres and along thousands of miles of roadway and railroad corridors.
-
Axiom Environmental has provide services for several large or high-profile projects, including 8 years of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) surveys under and adjacent to the Bonner/Basnight Bridges over Oregon Inlet in Dare County.
-
Axiom Environmental has successfully obtained permits for more than 40 private and public projects across the state of NC and in neighboring states.
Research and Assessment Methodology Development
-
Axiom Environmental has provided significant expertise and services to assist in the development of several statewide methodologies for stream and wetland assessment, including:
-- North Carolina Wetland Assessment Method (NC WAM)
-- North Carolina Stream Assessment Method (NC SAM)
-
Axiom Environmental staff have assisted in the teaching of methodology training for private consultants and agency personnel, including:
-- North Carolina Wetland Assessment Method (NC WAM)
-- North Carolina Stream Assessment Method (NC SAM)
-- NC Division of Water Resources, Surface Water Identification Training (SWIT)
-
Axiom Environmental has provided significant expertise and field collected data for the development of multiple modeling efforts across the state, including:
-- Development of models to identify wetland locations and types for tidal and non-tidal wetlands,
-- Collection of stream origin data in 16 of the 19 NC level 4 ecoregions specifically tailored for regression analysis of stream extents in the generation of statewide hydrography mapping,
-- Guidance, modeling, and data collection for numerous NCDOT Project ATLAS datasets, including statewide hydrography mapping, modeled stream quality based on benthic sampling results, mapping of Coastal Area Management Act Areas of Environmental Concern, identification of trout waters and sturgeon spawning areas, mapping of agency jurisdictions of water resources, digitization and mapping of stream temperature habitats and anadromous fish spawning waters, digitization and combination of more than 3000 soil survey maps to create a georeferenced, statewide image layer, and the modeling of tidal surfaces and streams.
